Frequently Asked Questions
-
TRT is a medical treatment that helps restore healthy testosterone levels in men who are experiencing symptoms of low testosterone (Low T). It can improve energy, muscle mass, libido, and mood by supplementing the body’s natural hormone production.
-
Low testosterone is treated by many types of providers, often by those without specialized training. While many people do treat low testosterone, not everyone should. TRT clinics often employ nurses or physician assistants to keep costs low, or doctors with unrelated training like Emergency Medicine who are burned out from their specialty. At Central Coast, are always seen by a doctor with focused expertise in men’s health and hormone therapy, ensuring safe, evidence-based treatment tailored to you.
-
Common symptoms of Low T include low energy, reduced muscle mass, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, brain fog, mood swings, and difficulty concentrating. If you’re experiencing these symptoms, TRT may be a suitable treatment option.
-
TRT can be administered through various methods, including injections, topical gels or creams, small subcutaneous (under the skin) implants, pills and other formulations. Dr. Mills at Central Coast Men’s Health will work with you to determine the best form of treatment based on your needs and lifestyle.
-
Most men begin to notice improvements in their energy, mood, and overall well-being within 3 to 6 weeks of starting TRT. However, results can vary depending on individual response and adherence to the treatment plan.
-
When administered by a qualified healthcare professional like Dr. Mills, TRT is exceptionally safe and effective. However, it’s important to have regular follow-up appointments to monitor your hormone levels and overall health while on TRT.
-
Yes, low testosterone is often linked to erectile dysfunction (ED). TRT can help improve sexual function by increasing testosterone levels, which may result in better libido and performance.
-
While testosterone replacement therapy is generally well tolerated, some potential side effects of TRT include acne, mood changes, small increase in blood pressure and increased red blood cell count. Additionally, TRT typically has a significant impact on fertility and sperm production, though this can usually be mitigated with additional medications if fertility preservation is important to you. Dr. Mills will discuss your personalized risks and will carefully monitor your treatment to minimize those risks and adjust your therapy as needed.
-
The first step is to schedule a consultation with a men’s health specialist. Dr. Mills will perform a thorough evaluation, which includes reviewing your symptoms and conducting blood tests to measure your testosterone levels.
-
TRT is often a long-term treatment, as it helps to maintain consistent testosterone levels. Your doctor will work with you to develop a treatment plan that aligns with your health goals, and regular monitoring will help determine the duration of your therapy.
