Vasectomy
The most effective method of birth control after abstinence.
How much does a vasectomy cost?
At Central Coast, initial consultation to discuss your personal health history and the risk, benefits and alternative of the procedure is $250. The vasectomy procedure itself is $905, which includes post-vasectomy semen testing.
Is it covered by insurance?
It depends! We are a cash only clinic, but if you have a PPO you can see us as an out of network provider.
Why wouldn’t I just go with an in-network doctor?
Excellent question! There are two factors to consider: cost and expertise.
COST: Many insurance providers do cover vasectomy. However, most insurance companies also require that you meet your deductible before your insurance benefits kick in. Unless you have already met your deductible, you’re likely paying cash for your vasectomy whether you use insurance or not.
EXPERTISE: Dr. Mills is the Central Coast’s only fellowship-trained Urologist in Andrology and Men’s Health which includes extensive training in both microsurgery and chronic testicular pain. In other words, when things go wrong, other doctors turn to Dr. Mills for help. An important question to ask yourself is, is having an expert perform a procedure on your sensitive parts worth a small increase in cost?
Vasectomy is the most common urologic procedure in the US with over 500,000 performed yearly.

Why vasectomy?
Lose the birth control.
With vasectomy, you and your partner will no longer need any other form of birth control to prevent pregnancy (no condoms, pills, IUDs, etc.). It is important to note, however, vasectomy does not protect against or prevent transmission of sexually transmitted infections.
It’s effective.
Vasectomy is the most effective form of birth control (aside of course from not having sexual intercourse) with 99.95% efficacy at preventing unwanted births.
It’s safe.
It is a quick, office based procedure with no need for general anesthesia and few risks.
It’s less invasive and less costly than tubal ligation.
Tubal ligation (also known as getting your tubes tied) is a surgical procedure performed on women keeping eggs from reaching the uterus to prevent pregnancy. Because of the invasive nature of the procedure, and the need for general anesthesia, tubal ligation can cost several thousand dollars.
How does it work?
Sperm is made in the testicle and travels to the epididymis, a c-shaped organ connected to the testicle, where it matures and is stored until ejaculation. With ejaculation, sperm travels through the vas deferens to the outside world.
During a vasectomy, the vas deferens is cut and blocked to prevent sperm from leaving your body.
While it should be considered a permanent sterilizing procedure, it is possible to reconnect the vas deferens with a vasectomy reversal.
